List Building
Monday, December 6th, 2010One of the recommended things for an Internet Marketer to do is to build an opt-in email list. The results from promoting to your list can be very rewarding. Lists also allow you to enter into joint ventures with other Internet Marketers. This allows you to promote their products to your list and in return they will promote your products to their list. This can increase the reach of your product promotions.
I made an attempt to start a list about a year ago, without success. I produced an ebook and offered it as a free incentive to sign up for my list. The primary problem is probably that there is a lack of traffic to the site, a problem that I have begun to address.
It occurred to me today that I do have a reasonably sized list available. I have put up several niche article directories and one general directory. I have these set up to send an email when an article is accepted for publication. I do know that these emails are sent because I see auto-responder replies from time to time. I can edit the automatic messages that are sent to this ‘list’. As I see it, I do have a right to communicate with my authors, and there is an opt-out mechanism in the script.
The only problem appears to be that the emails are plain text. I have tried to insert an anchor text link, but it comes through as plain text. My email client recognizes the Internet site and makes the link within the href clickable, but it is a messy and inelegant approach. Since I don’t want to send affiliate links in the clear this is a bit of a problem. I can, however, put up a redirect script on my sites that will send visitors to the affiliate pages giving me the credit without displaying the affiliate link directly. This is the recommended proceedure to use whenever an affiliate link is used. It still will not be as elegant as an anchor text link, but it will be much better than flying an affiliate link in the clear.
I will do some more digging to see if these emails can be sent as html/plain text, but if this can not be done I will use my workaround. I will be adding two or three links that target internet marketers to the automatic emails soon!
Do you have any ‘lists’ like the one I discovered today? Can you make use of that list in your Internet Marketing efforts?
